We had the unique experience of working 50 days in Brazil in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games. In December of 2015, our team spent over a week at Barra Olympic Park's tennis venue for what was scheduled to be full scale test event. After a series of power failures, network outages and unfinished construction, test plans were postponed until our final days in Rio. There were further delays when our scoring room flooded after heavy rain. Rumors of construction workers preparing for riots over back wages made international news, as health care workers and law enforcement advised visitors that they could provide assitance in any way.
Update: Our time in Rio was some of the most difficult in sports event work our team has endured. I reflect on our time as an experience for bonding, storytelling and and overall sense of accomplishment that none of us jumped on a plane and went home early!
